A native Georgian, I spent my childhood observing and absorbing the world around me. My grandmother’s hands shelling peas, the waves lapping against the sand at the beach, sweet songs carried along by the smell of bacon cooking in the morning, or the sweat beading up on my brow while whittling sticks with my grandfather are details that make my life unique. Attention to the little things has greatly affected the look of my work. Not always concerned with the whole, but the sum of the parts.

After many years of working for other photographers, I realized a long time dream of creating a studio dedicated to the details in my clients’ lives. Individual personalities and family dynamics are the hallmarks of my work. Not the perfect pose, but, instead, a meaningful expression. A single moment that tells a lifetime of stories. A wink, a laugh, a look.

For those wondering, the name of the studio is a bit of a pun. I once wanted to be known as N. Ward Carpenter. That didn’t work out, but “nward” stuck. The “i” is purely there at the insistence of my wife, Jeca, so it could be found in the phone book (oddly, it isn't even listed in the phone book).
