modern tradition

I've been working on the idea of traditional portraiture that is neither formal nor stuffy.  I've always loved formal portraits of children, but I think they need a make over.

I love his look without a big, toothy smile.  I love his quiet, thoughtful expression.  I love the simple, timeless look of his clothes.  

He has a pretty cute smile too.

Here are a few favorites from the first session.

 

Tech notes:

Kodak Portra 400 color film shot with my Mamiya RZ with 180mm f4.5 lens.  Some were shot using an Elinchrom BXRi 500 and Softlighter.  Processed and scanned by Indie Film Lab.
